The
path to true and lasting happiness in this life and life eternal
in heaven is a free gift from God. We need only to admit, believe,
and confess.
- Admit. We need to admit that we have sinned. We're
not perfect, but God is. Romans 3:23-24 states, "for all
have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified
freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ
Jesus."
- Believe. We will never be perfect. So how can we have
a relationship with a perfect God? If we believe that Jesus
Christ, God's Son, died on the cross for our sins, we can have
new life. John 3:16 states, "For God so loved the world
that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in
Him shall not perish but have eternal life." We can't earn
God's favor on our own-it's already been done for us. Ephesians
2:8-9 states, "For it is by grace you have been saved,
through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of
God-not by works, so that no one can boast."
- Confess. We must commit ourselves to Jesus Christ
as our Lord, fully accepting that He died for our sins. Romans
10:9-10 states, "if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus
is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from
the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that
you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that
you confess and are saved."
Consider praying this prayer:
Dear Lord, I admit that I'm a sinner. I've made mistakes
in my life, and I'm not perfect. I want to have a relationship
with You. I believe that your Son, Jesus Christ, died on the
cross for my sins. Jesus, please come into my heart, cleanse
me, and give me new life.
